Open Door Church is an inclusive community rooted in the transformational love of Jesus Christ and His call to serve others
Open Door Church is an inclusive and welcoming community rooted in Mennonite and Anabaptist teachings and traditions. We are a small group of Jesus followers listening to God’s call for how we can welcome and serve our local community and the city of Philadelphia at large. We believe nothing stands in the way of receiving God’s love and participating in the church body.
By living the greatest commandments, according to Jesus: to Love God with all our heart and with all our soul and with all our mind. And to love our neighbor as ourselves.
– Matthew 22:37-39
We resist racist, homophobic, transphobic, queerphobic, misogynist, xenophobic, classist, and religious ways of being for the truth of who we are in Christ, and we celebrate our differences.
We are led by the Holy Spirit in community with one another, actively partnered in humility with our neighbors and other communities of faith and organizations, while resisting independent and exceptional behaviors. We value simplicity, accountability, and transparency in our decision-making processes and life together.
We are a community rooted in the teaching, life, divinity and saving grace of Jesus Christ. We believe in the continuing revelation of the Holy Spirit as a living force that carries us, and we look to scripture for guidance and wisdom as we endeavor to proclaim a loving and personal God in the present time.
We believe both the Holy Spirit and scripture point us to a Kingdom of God that is ever evolving and inclusive. They call us to create a community which seeks to bridge rifts created by class and cultural factors such as race, sexual orientation, and gender identity among other divisions. Our desire to be inclusive grows out of our understanding that the church comes into its missional fullness, “fulfilling all righteousness”, as we participate in the innate inclusiveness of God’s loving grace. We believe this was the vision of our savior Jesus Christ.
We seek to highlight the common roots and destiny all humanity shares in relationship with God. With humility and boldness, we seek to both profoundly impact and be impacted by our surrounding communities in Philadelphia. We are a community of those who are called to seek the truth rather than own it. We pray for sincerity to seek God’s love and mercy as we carry this vision forward.
Open Door Church currently meets on Sundays at 5pm at The Dandelion Project, 1415 S. 9th St. Philadelphia, PA 19147
